It is the intent of the Oklahoma Legislature that, beginning\n\nwith the 2001-2002 school year, the Oklahoma State Regents for\n\nHigher Education establish a teacher shortage employment incentive\n\nprogram for students enrolled in a major course of study in\n\nmathematics or science at the undergraduate level or graduate level\n\nwho declare an intention to serve and who subsequently serve this\n\nstate by teaching in a secondary level public school of this state\n\nfor a minimum of five (5) years in the subject areas of mathematics\n\nor science. Students meeting the criteria provided in this section\n\nshall be given the opportunity to enter into participation in the\n\nprogram.\n\nB. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education are\n\nauthorized to make employment incentive payments pursuant to the\n\nprovisions of this section to persons who actually render a minimum\n\nof five (5) years of service as teachers in the public schools of\n\nthis state if not less than seventy-five percent (75%) of the\n\nteaching assignment meets the criteria specified in subsection A of\n\nthis section. The total amount of the employment incentive payments\n\nfor any qualified person shall not exceed an amount equal to three\n\ntimes the average annual cost of undergraduate resident tuition and\n\nfees for full-time enrollment at institutions which offer teacher\n\neducation programs within The Oklahoma State System of Higher\n\nEducation, as defined by the State Regents. Any amount not\n\nnecessary to repay the balance of a student's loan(s) shall be paid\n\ndirectly to any person otherwise eligible for employment incentive\n\npayments pursuant to this section.\n\nC. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education shall\n\nrequire the execution of appropriate contracts with eligible\n\npersons. Persons failing to comply with the requirements of this\n\nsection shall not be eligible for the employment incentive payments\n\nprovided for in this section. The Chancellor of the Oklahoma State\n\nRegents for Higher Education, with approval of the State Regents,\n\nmay contract with any other appropriate organization or unit of\n\ngovernment for the administration of the provisions of this section.\n\nD.
