Stat. tit. 72, § 72-67.13a","heading":"War veterans defined - Retirement benefits","body":"\n\nExcept for the purposes of determining military service credit\n\nfor state retirement, the words “war veterans” used in Section 67.13\n\nof this title shall be construed to mean such honorably discharged\n\npersons as served:\n\n1. In the Armed Forces of the United States at any time during\n\nthe period from April 6, 1917, to November 11, 1918, both dates\n\ninclusive;\n\n2. In the Armed Forces of the United States as members of the\n\n45th Division at any time during the period from September 16, 1940,\n\nto December 7, 1941, both dates inclusive;\n\n3. In the Armed Forces of the United States at any time during\n\nthe period from December 7, 1941, to December 31, 1946, both dates\n\ninclusive;\n\n4. In the Armed Forces of the United States at any time during\n\nthe period from June 27, 1950, to January 31, 1955, both dates\n\ninclusive;\n\n5. For a period of ninety (90) days or more, unless discharged\n\nfrom active duty for a service-connected disability, in the Armed\n\nForces of the United States during the period of time in which the\n\nUnited States participated in a war, campaign or battle, but\n\nexcluding any person who shall have served on active duty for\n\ntraining only, unless discharged from active duty for service-\n\nconnected disability;\n\n6. In the Armed Forces of the United States at any time during\n\nthe period which began on:\n\na. February 28, 1961, and ended on May 7, 1975, in the\n\ncase of a veteran who served in the Republic of\n\nVietnam during that period, and\n\nb. August 5, 1964, and ended on May 7, 1975, in all other\n\ncases,\n\nexcept that such period shall be deemed to have ended on December\n\n31, 1976, when determining eligibility for education and training\n\nbenefits; or\n\n7. In the Armed Forces of the United States on or after August\n\n1, 1990, during the period of time in which the United States\n\nparticipates in a war, military or naval campaign, or expedition,\n\nexcluding any person who shall have served on active duty for\n\ntraining only, unless discharged from active duty for service-\n\nconnected disability.\n\nThe term “war veterans” shall include only those persons who\n\nshall have served during the times or in the areas prescribed in\n\nthis section, and those persons who were awarded service medals, as\n\nauthorized by the United States Department of Defense as reflected\n\nin the veteran’s Defense Department Form 214, related to the Vietnam\n\nConflict who served prior to August 5, 1964. Any honorably\n\ndischarged war veteran of any of the Armed Forces of the United\n\nStates shall be entitled to such tax exemptions to include but not\n\nbe limited to tax-exempt veterans’ benefits as provided in paragraph\n\n12 of Section 2887 of Title 68 of the Oklahoma Statutes, special\n\npermits and veterans’ preferences for state employment; provided,\n\nthat any person who shall have served on active duty for training\n\npurposes only shall not be entitled to any such tax exemptions,\n\nspecial permits or veterans’ preferences.\n\nThe provisions of this act shall include military retirees,\n\nwhose retirement was based only on active service, that have been\n\nrated as having twenty percent (20%) or greater service-connected\n\ndisability by the Veterans Administration or the Armed Forces of the\n\nUnited States.
