Stat. tit. 73, § 73-72","heading":"Legislative expenses - Preparation of session laws - Claims","body":"and unfinished business - Inventory - Care and custody of property\n\nand chambers.\n\nThe closing of the business of the House of Representatives and\n\nthe Senate, after each legislative session, and the preparation of\n\nthe journals of the two houses, and the session laws, and the\n\nprinting thereof, are hereby declared to be expenses of the\n\nLegislature of this state, and those expenses shall be paid from any\n\nappropriations made for the House of Representatives and the Senate.\n\nThe President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the\n\nHouse, after each legislative session, shall have supervision of the\n\npreparation of the session laws for that session, shall contract for\n\nthe printing thereof and supervise the publication of same, and all\n\nclaims for expenses in connection with such printing shall, before\n\npayment, be approved by both the President Pro Tempore of the Senate\n\nand the Speaker of the House.\n\nThe session laws, when printed and paid for, shall be deposited\n\nwith the Secretary of State, who shall distribute the same to the\n\nstate officers, departments and institutions entitled thereto.\n\nAfter the adjournment of each session of the Legislature, the\n\nSpeaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro\n\nTempore of the Senate, respectively, are hereby authorized and\n\ndirected as follows:\n\nFirst: All outstanding and valid claims against the House of\n\nRepresentatives shall be presented to the Speaker of the House and\n\nshall be by him examined and audited, and all such claims and valid\n\nobligations of the House of Representatives, after approval by the\n\nSpeaker, shall be paid from any legislative contingent or other\n\nexpense funds available for that purpose; all outstanding and valid\n\nclaims against the Senate shall be presented to the President Pro\n\nTempore of the Senate and shall be by him examined and audited, and\n\nall such claims and valid obligations of the Senate, after approval\n\nby the President Pro Tempore, shall be paid from any legislative\n\ncontingent or other expense funds available for that purpose.\n\nSecond: To close all unfinished business of the House of\n\nRepresentatives and the Senate, and properly to prepare, index and\n\nsuperintend the publication of the permanent journals of the House\n\nof Representatives and the Senate of each legislative session;\n\nprovided, that printed copies of said permanent journals shall be\n\ncertified to by the presiding officers of the two houses,\n\nrespectively, as being a true and correct copy of the proceedings of\n\nthe House of Representatives and the Senate during all sessions of\n\nthe Legislature, and filed with the Secretary of State; provided\n\nfurther, that in the process and work of indexing and superintending\n\nthe publication of said journals and the closing of the unfinished\n\nbusiness of the houses, the Speaker of the House of Representatives\n\nand the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, respectively, are\n\nhereby authorized to retain or employ such assistants or help as may\n\nbe found necessary to complete such work.\n\nThe Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President\n\nPro Tempore of the Senate are further authorized and directed,\n\nrespectively, to make an inventory of the property of the two\n\nhouses, after each session of the Legislature, to enter the same in\n\nthe permanent book of records, and to preserve such record as the\n\nrecord of the respective houses. When the property and records of\n\nthe House of Representatives have been invoiced after each session,\n\nthe same, together with the House Chamber and all House committee\n\nrooms, shall be delivered to the Speaker of the House of\n\nRepresentatives or to such person as he may designate, who shall\n\nhave the absolute care, custody and control of the same until the\n\nconvening of the next session of the State Legislature, and when the\n\nproperty and records of the Senate have been invoiced after each\nssion,\n\nthe same, together with the House Chamber and all House committee\n\nrooms, shall be delivered to the Speaker of the House of\n\nRepresentatives or to such person as he may designate, who shall\n\nhave the absolute care, custody and control of the same until the\n\nconvening of the next session of the State Legislature, and when the\n\nproperty and records of the Senate have been invoiced after each\n\nsession, such property and records, together with the Senate Chamber\n\nand all Senate committee rooms, shall be delivered to the Secretary\n\nof the Senate, who shall have the absolute care, custody and control\n\nof the same until the convening of the next session of the State\n\nLegislature.
