The Legislature finds that:\n\n1. Oklahoma has benefited from its implementation of the policy\n\nset forth in Section 1221 of Title 74 of the Oklahoma Statutes\n\nthrough, among other things, the formation and entry of\n\nintergovernmental agreements or compacts with Tribal nations on a\n\nvariety of subjects;\n\n2. As an exercise of executive authority consistent with this\n\ncodified policy, the Oklahoma Governor formed and entered certain\n\nTribal-State agreements relating to motor vehicle licensing and\n\nregistration matters, which agreements have benefited all parties by\n\nreducing intergovernmental disputes and increasing revenues\n\navailable for roads, bridges, schools, and other valuable community\n\ninfrastructure.\n\nB. The State of Oklahoma now offers the following supplemental\n\nterm to any Tribe that was, as of January 1, 2023, a party to a\n\nmotor vehicle licensing or registration agreement previously\n\nexecuted by an Oklahoma Governor:\n\nAFFIRMATION AND EXTENSION OF\n\nMOTOR VEHICLE LICENSING/REGISTRATION COMPACT\n\nBetween the [NAME OF TRIBE]\n\nand the STATE OF OKLAHOMA\n\nThe motor vehicle licensing or registration and license\n\ntag agreement formed and entered by the Oklahoma Governor and\n\nthe [NAME OF TRIBE] is hereby affirmed as a compact between the\n\nSTATE OF OKLAHOMA and [NAME OF TRIBE] and shall be in effect\n\nuntil December 31, 2024, and any action to unilaterally\n\nterminate or to issue written notice of the compact’s\n\nnonrenewal prior to that date shall be null and void.\n\nC. Tribal acceptance of this offer shall be indicated by letter\n\nfrom the Tribal party’s governing body or official reciting the\n\nterms set forth above and delivered to the Oklahoma Tax Commission.\n\nSuch acceptance letter, including the terms set forth above and\n\ndelivered to the Oklahoma Tax Commission, shall then be filed with\n\nthe Oklahoma Secretary of State.","path":["OK Code","Title 74"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os74.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"cb38df7a9daa6219df683f57bbce3f0708a0778296407bc204bca73f2b41291b","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-74-74-1221.a","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-74-74-1222"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
