The Director of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation\n\nis hereby authorized to appoint, with the approval of the\n\nCommission, not to exceed twenty special officers, who shall not be\n\nsalaried employees of the Bureau of Investigation but who shall at\n\nall times be subject to the orders and directions of the Director;\n\nprovided that the special officers shall not have authority to\n\nenforce any laws except the provisions of the Oklahoma Statutes\n\nrelating to larceny of domestic animals, livestock or farm and ranch\n\nequipment or supplies, with respect to which they shall have the\n\nsame authority as any other peace officer. These officers shall be\n\nknown as rangers.\n\nB. Rangers shall not receive any compensation or expenses from\n\nthe State of Oklahoma or any of its departments, agencies or\n\nsubdivisions for their services. Before the issuance of a special\n\ncommission each ranger shall enter into a good and sufficient bond\n\nexecuted by a surety company authorized to do business in the State\n\nof Oklahoma in the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Dollars\n\n($500,000.00), and approved by the Director, to indemnify all\n\npersons against damages accruing as a result of any illegal or\n\nunlawful acts on the part of the rangers; provided that all special\n\ncommissions shall expire on January 1 of the odd-numbered year after\n\nthe appointment.
