The Director of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation\n\nmay establish a crimes information unit within the Bureau.\n\nB. With authorization from the Director of the Bureau, the\n\ncrimes information unit or any employee of the Bureau may:\n\n1. Investigate organized crime, criminal conspiracies, and\n\nthreats of violent crime;\n\n2. Collect information concerning the activity and identity of\n\nindividuals reasonably believed to be engaged in organized crime,\n\ncriminal conspiracies, or threatening violent crime;\n\n3. Analyze collected information and disseminate such\n\ninformation to other law enforcement agencies for the purposes of\n\ncriminal investigation and crime prevention;\n\n4. Coordinate the effort of this state with local, state and\n\nfederal agencies to protect its citizens against organized crime,\n\ncriminal conspiracies and threats of violent crime by creating a\n\nclearinghouse of crime-related information for use by local, state\n\nand federal law enforcement agencies; and\n\n5. Provide training to peace officers of this state concerning\n\nthe legal collection, preservation and dissemination of crime-\n\nrelated information.\n\nC. Release of information compiled pursuant to this section\n\nshall be prohibited except for release of information to law\n\nenforcement officers and prosecutorial authorities for the purpose\n\nof criminal investigation, criminal prosecution, and crime\n\nprevention. Unauthorized release or unauthorized use of this\n\ninformation shall be a misdemeanor and shall be punishable by\n\nincarceration in the county jail not exceeding one (1) year or a\n\nfine not exceeding Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00), or by both\n\nsuch fine and imprisonment. As used in this section, \"unauthorized\n\nrelease\" or \"unauthorized use\" shall include, but not be limited to,\n\ngiving the information to any person who is not a law enforcement\n\nofficer unless necessitated by an ongoing criminal investigation, or\n\nrelease of information to a law enforcement officer who is not\n\nengaged in a criminal investigation requiring the information or who\n\nis not authorized by his or her agency to receive such information,\n\nor release of information in violation of any rules promulgated by\n\nthe Bureau. Information collected and compiled under the authority\n\nof this section shall be privileged and not discoverable nor subject\n\nto subpoena or order for production issued by any court, other than\n\nproduction in a district court criminal proceeding for the\n\nprosecution of crimes which are the subject of the information\n\nsought.
