Stat. tit. 74, § 74-192.7","heading":"Written policies for classification and segregation of","body":"inmates.\n\nThe facility administrator shall develop and implement written\n\npolicies for the classification and segregation of inmates to ensure\n\nthe safety of inmates and staff. The following criteria shall be\n\nimplemented to ensure an adequate classification and segregation\n\nsystem:\n\n1. Inmates of opposite genders shall be housed in separated\n\nliving areas. Separation shall be by substantial architectural\n\narrangements which permit no sustained sight contact. Housing of\n\ninmates with mixed gender identification will be administered in a\n\nmanner to maximize inmate safety;\n\n2. Inmates considered to be a threat to other inmates or staff\n\nshall be housed separately from other inmates based upon the\n\nfollowing criteria:\n\na. the past criminal history of the inmate,\n\nb. the nature and severity of the charges pending against\n\nthe inmate,\n\nc. the behavior of the inmate while in the facility, and\n\nd. other relevant reasons as directed by the\n\nadministrator;\n\n3. Inmates may be double-celled or confined to dormitory-style\n\nhousing if the floor space meets the square footage requirements.\n\nSuch inmates shall be afforded temporary sleeping surfaces on an\n\ninterim basis and shall receive the same living conditions and\n\nprivileges as those occupying the general population. A fire-safe\n\ncot and industry products such as those referred to as “boats” are\n\nexamples of suitable temporary sleeping surfaces. Any exceptions\n\nregarding conditions and privileges shall be defined by the\n\nadministrator;\n\n4. Inmates who are intoxicated or under the influence of a\n\ncontrolled substance shall be housed separately from other inmates\n\nuntil such time as the medical authority or the facility\n\nadministrator determines their suitability for placement into the\n\ngeneral population or other appropriate housing;\n\n5. Inmates who appear to have a significant medical or\n\npsychiatric problem may be separated from other inmates;\n\n6. Unsentenced inmates shall be separated from sentenced\n\ninmates to the extent possible and shall be permitted whatever\n\nconfinement is least restrictive unless inmate behavior or other\n\nsecurity considerations dictate otherwise; and\n\n7.
