Stat. tit. 74, § 74-360.17","heading":"Jurisdiction of campus police officers - Authority of","body":"campus police departments.\n\nA. The jurisdiction of campus police officers includes the\n\ncampus and pursuant to an agreement authorized by Section 360.15 et\n\nseq. of this title, the highways, streets, roads, alleys, easements,\n\nand other public ways immediately adjacent to their campus and any\n\nother areas authorized by such agreement. This delineation of\n\njurisdiction, however, shall not be understood as limiting the\n\ncompletion of any necessary enforcement activities which began\n\nwithin these jurisdictions and are in compliance with the agreements\n\nmade with the municipality or county sheriff pursuant to Section\n\n360.15 et seq. of this title. In the absence of an agreement, only\n\nthose law enforcement activities which began on campus may be\n\ncompleted off campus and such activities must be completed in a\n\ntimely manner. Such law enforcement activities shall only be\n\nauthorized if the campus police have coordinated the activities with\n\nthe local law enforcement agency having jurisdiction in that off\n\ncampus area. In addition, a campus police officer shall have\n\njurisdiction in other locations pursuant to an agreement authorized\n\nby Section 360.15 et seq. of this title. Such agreement may\n\nauthorize the chief administrative officer of the law enforcement\n\nagency to request assistance pursuant to the agreement. Campus\n\npolice officers, commissioned pursuant to Section 360.15 et seq. of\n\nthis title, shall have the same powers, liabilities, and immunities\n\nas sheriffs or police officers within their jurisdiction.\n\nB. As limited by law, the provisions of this section, and the\n\ngoverning board, a CLEET certified campus police officer shall have\n\nthe authority to enforce:\n\n1. State criminal statutes;\n\n2. Municipal ordinances, if authorized by an agreement with the\n\nmunicipality; and\n\n3. Rules and regulations of the school, institution of higher\n\neducation or airport public trust or its beneficiary employing such\n\ncampus police officer.\n\nC. As limited by law, the provisions of this section, and the\n\ngoverning board, the campus police department shall have the same\n\nauthority as a municipal police department.\n\nD. Campus police departments formed by private institutions of\n\nhigher education pursuant to Section 360.15 et seq. of this title\n\nshall be deemed to be public agencies in the State of Oklahoma for\n\nthe limited purposes of enforcing the criminal statutes of Oklahoma\n\nand making agreements with local law enforcement agencies or\n\npolitical subdivisions of the state pursuant to Section 360.15 et\n\nseq. of this title, provided, that the trustees of airport public\n\ntrusts shall also be deemed to be a public agency of this state as\n\nprovided in Section 179 of Title 60 of the Oklahoma Statutes.","path":["OK Code","Title 74"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os74.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"bdacd38b2441bb4f24ba16da199f529dd4951799cddc7935f079281ee1b2ad7c","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-74-74-360.16","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-74-74-360.18"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
