Stat. tit. 82, § 82-1603","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Oklahoma Floodplain Management Act:\n\n1. \"Area of jurisdiction\" means:\n\na. all of the areas within an incorporated town or city,\n\nexcept locations of all property owned or operated by\n\nthe state for a municipality,\n\nb. all of the unincorporated areas except locations of\n\nall property owned or operated by the state of the\n\ncounty, for a county, or\n\nc. all property owned or operated by the state within the\n\nstate, for the Board;\n\n2. \"Board\" means the Oklahoma Water Resources Board;\n\n3. \"Dwelling unit\" means a place of residence and may be a\n\nsingle or multiple-dwelling building;\n\n4. \"Flood\" or \"flooding\" means general and temporary conditions\n\nof partial or complete inundation of normally dry land areas from\n\nthe overflow of lakes, streams, rivers or any other inland waters;\n\n5. \"Floodplain\" means the land adjacent to a body of water\n\nwhich has been or may be covered by flooding, including, but not\n\nlimited to, the one-hundred-year flood;\n\n6. “Floodplain administrator” means a person accredited by the\n\nBoard and designated by a floodplain board, to administer and\n\nimplement laws and regulations relating to the management of\n\nfloodplains;\n\n7. \"Floodplain board\" means:\n\na. an administrative and planning board established by a\n\nboard of county commissioners or governing body of a\n\nmunicipality and composed of membership as specified\n\nin Section 1605 of this title, for floodplain\n\nmanagement of a county or a municipality,\n\nb. the Oklahoma Water Resources Board,\n\nc. the planning commission of a municipality or a county\n\nif so designated by the governing body of the\n\nmunicipality or county, or\n\nd. the board of county commissioners or governing body of\n\na municipality if a separate floodplain board composed\n\nof membership as specified in Section 1605 of this\n\ntitle is not established or if an established\n\nfloodplain board is dissolved by its respective board\n\nof county commissioners or governing body of a\n\nmunicipality after the effective date of this act;\n\n8. \"Floodplain regulations\" mean the codes, ordinances and\n\nother regulations relating to the use of land and construction\n\nwithin the channel and floodplain areas including, but not limited\n\nto, zoning ordinances, platting regulations, building codes, housing\n\ncodes, setback requirements and open area regulations;\n\n9. \"Floodway\" means the channel of a stream, watercourse or\n\nbody of water and those portions of floodplains which are reasonably\n\nrequired to carry and discharge the floodwater or floodflow of any\n\nriver or stream;\n\n10. \"One-hundred-year flood\" means a flood which has a one\n\npercent (1%) chance of occurring each year, based upon the criteria\n\nestablished by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board;\n\n11. “BFE” means base flood elevation which is the elevation in\n\nfeet from mean sea level at which water level during a flood has a\n\none-percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year;\n\nand\n\n12. \"Program\" means the overall national flood insurance\n\nprogram authorized by the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 (42\n\nU.S.C. 4001-4128) as amended.","path":["OK Code","Title 82"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os82.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"a6887a253a776dd2497dbe54e74542c9e4bb3fd0f7ca8c0aab1c30588ef040ae","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-82-82-1602","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-82-82-1604"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
