Stat. tit. 84, § 84-231","heading":"Offenses precluding a person from inheriting or benefiting","body":"by insurance of victim.\n\nNo person who is convicted of murder in the first degree, murder\n\nin the second degree, manslaughter in the first degree, as defined\n\nby the laws of this state, or the laws of any other state or foreign\n\ncountry, of having taken, caused, or procured another to take, the\n\nlife of an individual, or who has been convicted of abuse, neglect\n\nor exploitation of a vulnerable adult pursuant to Section 843.3 of\n\nTitle 21 of the Oklahoma Statutes, shall inherit from the victim of\n\nthe offense, or receive any interest in the estate of the victim, or\n\ntake by devise or legacy, or as a designated beneficiary of an\n\naccount or security which is a POD or TOD designation, or as a\n\nsurviving joint tenant, or by descent or distribution, from the\n\nvictim, any portion of the victim's estate; and no beneficiary of\n\nany policy of insurance or certificate of membership issued by any\n\nbenevolent association or organization, payable upon the death or\n\ndisability of any person, who in like manner takes, causes, or\n\nprocures to be taken, the life upon which such policy or certificate\n\nis issued, or who causes or procures a disability of such person, or\n\nwho has been convicted of abuse, neglect or exploitation of a\n\nvulnerable adult pursuant to Section 843.3 of Title 21 of the\n\nOklahoma Statutes, where such deceased or disabled person was the\n\nvictim, shall take the proceeds of such policy or certificate; but\n\nin every instance mentioned in this section all benefits that would\n\naccrue to any such person upon the death or disability of the person\n\nwhose life is thus taken, or who is thus disabled, shall become\n\nsubject to distribution among the other heirs of such deceased\n\nperson according to the laws of descent and distribution, in the\n\ncase of death, and in case of disability, the benefits thereunder\n\nshall be paid to the disabled person; provided, however, that an\n\ninsurance company shall be discharged of all liability under a\n\npolicy issued by it upon payment of the proceeds in accordance with\n\nthe terms thereof, unless before such payment the company shall have\n\nwritten notice by or in behalf of some claimant other than the\n\nbeneficiary named in the policy that a claim to the proceeds of such\n\npolicy will be made by heirs of such deceased under the provisions\n\nof this section.","path":["OK Code","Title 84"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os84.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"1a2aa637cc6ad405c1d98ba4b9c4defa29c6cc0bf34303d92f45dc9f7cbd5c6b","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-84-84-230","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-84-84-232"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
