{"data":{"id":"us-pa/11-pa.c.s.-14302","jurisdiction":"us-pa","citation":"11 Pa.C.S. § 14302","heading":"Retirement and final discharge.","body":"(a) Requirements for ordinance.--With regard to continuous service and minimum retirement age requirements, the ordinance establishing the police pension fund shall prescribe as follows:\n(1) A minimum period of continuous service of not less than 20 years.\n(2) If a minimum retirement age is prescribed, a minimum age of 50 years.\n(b) Retired member.--If not unfit by reason of age, disability or otherwise, a retired member shall be subject to service as a police reserve under terms and conditions as may be established by council.\n(c) Military service.--With the approval of council, a member of the police pension fund shall be entitled to have full credit for each year or fraction of a year, not to exceed five years, of the service upon the member's payment to:\n(1) the police pension fund of an amount equal to that which the member would have paid had the member been a member during the period for which credit is desired; and\n(2) the fund of an additional amount as the equivalent of the contributions of the city on account of the military service.\nTo be eligible under this subsection, the member must be a contributor who served in the armed forces of the United States after September 1, 1940, and was not a member of the police pension fund prior to the military service.","path":["Title 11 - CITIES","PART V THIRD CLASS CITIES","CHAPTER 143 PENSIONS","SUBCHAPTER A POLICE"],"source_url":"https://www.palegis.us/statutes/consolidated/view-statute?txtType=HTM\u0026ttl=11\u0026div=0\u0026chpt=143\u0026sctn=2\u0026subsctn=0","current_through":"2025-03-10 (Statute Update stamp, 11 Pa.C.S.)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T16:30:53Z","sha256":"7e56070b89762e7a8674d8316d130fc6657ce52c5c25ecfcbfd1eb5ea8ae00c2","source_id":"us-pa","stale":false,"prev":"us-pa/11-pa.c.s.-14301","next":"us-pa/11-pa.c.s.-14302.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
