{"data":{"id":"us-pa/44-pa.c.s.-7203","jurisdiction":"us-pa","citation":"44 Pa.C.S. § 7203","heading":"Mental health evaluations for law enforcement officers.","body":"(a) Evaluations.--As a condition of continued employment, and without cost to the law enforcement officer, a law enforcement agency shall provide a law enforcement officer with a mental health evaluation for post-traumatic stress disorder by a licensed mental health professional:\n(1) upon request of the law enforcement officer;\n(2) upon recommendation of a police chief or other supervising law enforcement officer; or\n(3) within 30 days of an incident of the use of lethal force during the course of law enforcement duties.\n(b) Treatment.--If a licensed mental health professional determines during the mental health evaluation under subsection (a) that a law enforcement officer has symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, the law enforcement officer shall be provided with treatment under a licensed physician's care until the licensed physician determines in writing that the law enforcement officer is able to resume full duties.\n(c) Administrative duty.--A law enforcement officer shall be assigned to administrative duty if the law enforcement officer:\n(1) fails to undergo a mental health evaluation for post-traumatic stress disorder when required under subsection (a); or\n(2) is experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder as determined by a licensed mental health professional under subsection (a) and whom the licensed physician has not yet determined is able to resume full duties under subsection (b).","path":["Title 44 - LAW AND JUSTICE","PART IV OTHER OFFICERS AND OFFICIALS","CHAPTER 72 MENTAL HEALTH EVALUATIONS","SUBCHAPTER B GENERAL PROVISIONS"],"source_url":"https://www.palegis.us/statutes/consolidated/view-statute?txtType=HTM\u0026ttl=44\u0026div=0\u0026chpt=72\u0026sctn=3\u0026subsctn=0","current_through":"2026-07-29 (Statute Update stamp, 44 Pa.C.S.)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T16:33:23Z","sha256":"154c9bdd975e79bfd8c13ab72c25f95445a8de4dcc774bf2e32141e56fb6dd4c","source_id":"us-pa","stale":false,"prev":"us-pa/44-pa.c.s.-7202","next":"us-pa/44-pa.c.s.-7204"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
