{"data":{"id":"us-pa/57-pa.c.s.-305","jurisdiction":"us-pa","citation":"57 Pa.C.S. § 305","heading":"Requirements for certain notarial acts.","body":"(a) Acknowledgments.--A notarial officer who takes an acknowledgment of a record shall determine, from personal knowledge or satisfactory evidence of the identity of the individual, all of the following:\n(1) The individual appearing before the notarial officer and making the acknowledgment has the identity claimed.\n(2) The signature on the record is the signature of the individual.\n(b) Verifications.--A notarial officer who takes a verification of a statement on oath or affirmation shall determine, from personal knowledge or satisfactory evidence of the identity of the individual, all of the following:\n(1) The individual appearing before the notarial officer and making the verification has the identity claimed.\n(2) The signature on the statement verified is the signature of the individual.\n(c) Signatures.--A notarial officer who witnesses or attests to a signature shall determine, from personal knowledge or satisfactory evidence of the identity of the individual, all of the following:\n(1) The individual appearing before the notarial officer and signing the record has the identity claimed.\n(2) The signature on the record is the signature of the individual.\n(d) Copies.--A notarial officer who certifies or attests a copy of a record or an item which was copied shall determine that the copy is a complete and accurate transcription or reproduction of the record or item.\n(e) Negotiable instruments.--A notarial officer who makes or notes a protest of a negotiable instrument shall determine the matters set forth in 13 Pa.C.S. § 3505(b) (relating to evidence of dishonor).","path":["Title 57 - NOTARIES PUBLIC","CHAPTER 3 REVISED UNIFORM LAW ON NOTARIAL ACTS"],"source_url":"https://www.palegis.us/statutes/consolidated/view-statute?txtType=HTM\u0026ttl=57\u0026div=0\u0026chpt=3\u0026sctn=5\u0026subsctn=0","current_through":"2024-09-13 (Statute Update stamp, 57 Pa.C.S.)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T16:34:18Z","sha256":"57b944d4ec6b126b3a557cd3419d3b5c41c2cd49856b5fe6893b4e292e4f21bf","source_id":"us-pa","stale":false,"prev":"us-pa/57-pa.c.s.-304","next":"us-pa/57-pa.c.s.-306"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
