{"data":{"id":"us-pa/57-pa.c.s.-314","jurisdiction":"us-pa","citation":"57 Pa.C.S. § 314","heading":"Foreign notarial act.","body":"(a) (Reserved).\n(b) Effect.--\n(1) This subsection applies to a notarial act:\n(i) performed under authority and in the jurisdiction of a foreign state or constituent unit of the foreign state; or\n(ii) performed under the authority of a multinational or international governmental organization.\n(2) A notarial act under paragraph (1) has the same effect under the law of this Commonwealth as if performed by a notarial officer of this Commonwealth.\n(c) Conclusive establishment.--If the title of office and indication of authority to perform notarial acts in a foreign state appears in a digest of foreign law or in a list customarily used as a source for that information, the authority of an officer with that title to perform notarial acts is conclusively established.\n(d) Prima facie evidence.--The signature and official stamp of an individual holding an office described in subsection (c) are prima facie evidence that:\n(1) the signature is genuine; and\n(2) the individual holds the designated title.\n(e) Hague Convention.--\n(1) This subsection applies to an apostille which is:\n(i) in the form prescribed by the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961; and\n(ii) issued by a foreign state party to the Hague Convention.\n(2) An apostille under paragraph (1) conclusively establishes that:\n(i) the signature of the notarial officer is genuine; and\n(ii) the notarial officer holds the indicated office.\n(f) Consular authentications.--\n(1) This subsection applies to a consular authentication:\n(i) issued by an individual designated by the United States Department of State as a notarizing officer for performing notarial acts overseas; and\n(ii) attached to the record with respect to which the notarial act is performed.\n(2) A consular authentication under paragraph (1) conclusively establishes that:\n(i) the signature of the notarial officer is genuine; and\n(ii) the notarial officer holds the indicated office.\n(g) Definition.--As used in this section, the term \"foreign state\" means a government other than the United States, a state or a federally recognized Indian tribe.","path":["Title 57 - NOTARIES PUBLIC","CHAPTER 3 REVISED UNIFORM LAW ON NOTARIAL ACTS"],"source_url":"https://www.palegis.us/statutes/consolidated/view-statute?txtType=HTM\u0026ttl=57\u0026div=0\u0026chpt=3\u0026sctn=14\u0026subsctn=0","current_through":"2024-09-13 (Statute Update stamp, 57 Pa.C.S.)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T16:34:18Z","sha256":"b5bbfdadf1076f6d275680cc012c69d1d9ff61dac646fb14b7aa5fc0e36c5d32","source_id":"us-pa","stale":false,"prev":"us-pa/57-pa.c.s.-313","next":"us-pa/57-pa.c.s.-315"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
