{"data":{"id":"us-pa/75-pa.c.s.-3542","jurisdiction":"us-pa","citation":"75 Pa.C.S. § 3542","heading":"Right-of-way of pedestrians in crosswalks.","body":"(a) General rule.--When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.\n(b) Exercise of care by pedestrian.--No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close as to constitute a hazard.\n(c) Limitation on vehicles passing.--Whenever any vehicle is stopped at any crosswalk at an intersection or at any marked crosswalk to permit a pedestrian to cross the roadway, the driver of any other vehicle approaching from the rear shall not overtake and pass the stopped vehicle.\n(d) Application of section.--Subsection (a) does not apply under the conditions stated in section 3543(b) (relating to pedestrians crossing at other than crosswalks).\n(e) Penalties.--The driver of a vehicle who violates subsection (a) commits a summary offense and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to pay a fine of $50.","path":["Title 75 - VEHICLES","PART III OPERATION OF VEHICLES","CHAPTER 35 SPECIAL VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS","SUBCHAPTER C RIGHTS AND DUTIES OF PEDESTRIANS"],"source_url":"https://www.palegis.us/statutes/consolidated/view-statute?txtType=HTM\u0026ttl=75\u0026div=0\u0026chpt=35\u0026sctn=42\u0026subsctn=0","current_through":"2026-08-31 (Statute Update stamp, 75 Pa.C.S.)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T16:35:49Z","sha256":"a7626f5160de2fa02ad25a8741c5da561be7ef60199ba8360f33f3925ac2db54","source_id":"us-pa","stale":false,"prev":"us-pa/75-pa.c.s.-3541","next":"us-pa/75-pa.c.s.-3543"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
