Laws § 11-67.1-21","heading":"Eligibility for benefit or service.","body":"(a) A victim is eligible for a benefit or service available through the state in any plan established by the council on human trafficking [and identified in the plan developed under § 11-67.1-19(c)(1)], including compensation under the criminal injuries compensation act pursuant to chapter 25 of title 12, regardless of immigration status.\n(b) A minor who has engaged in commercial sexual activity is eligible for a benefit or service available through the state in any plan established by the council on human trafficking, regardless of immigration status.\n(c) As soon as practicable after a first encounter with an individual who reasonably appears to any state or local agency to be a victim or a minor who has engaged in commercial sexual activity, the agency shall notify the department of attorney general, a state or local law enforcement agency, or the department of health that the individual may be eligible for a benefit or service pursuant to this chapter.","path":["Title 11 Criminal Offenses","Chapter 67.1 Uniform Act on Prevention of and Remedies for Human Trafficking"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE11/11-67.1/11-67.1-21.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:55:21Z","sha256":"ae0b5a52baca138a969a6d7225e26cc5dd43785be12682394193985c57cc5d0d","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-11-67.1-20","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-11-67.1-22"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
