Laws § 12-16.1-6","heading":"Prisoner from another state summoned to testify in this state.","body":"(a) If a person confined in a penal institution in any other state may be a material witness in a criminal action pending in a court of record or in a grand jury investigation in this state, a judge of the court may certify:\n(1) That there is a criminal proceeding or investigation by a grand jury or a criminal action pending in the court;\n(2) That a person who is confined in a penal institution in the other state may be a material witness in the proceeding, investigation, or action; and\n(3) That the person’s presence will be required during a specified time.\n(b) The certificate shall be presented to a judge of a court of record in the other state having jurisdiction over the confined prisoner, and a notice shall be given to the attorney general of the state in which the prisoner is confined.","path":["Title 12 Criminal Procedure","Chapter 16.1 Uniform Rendition of Prisoners as Witnesses in Criminal Proceeding Act"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE12/12-16.1/12-16.1-6.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:55:26Z","sha256":"4fdac217b274c852de1e48fb3d3d28beee9a8f9ae740dbe9ecd21ffa5abff53d","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-12-16.1-5","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-12-16.1-7"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
