Laws § 15-23.1-211","heading":"Continuing exclusive jurisdiction to modify spousal-support order.","body":"(a) A tribunal of this state issuing a spousal-support order consistent with the law of this state has continuing, exclusive jurisdiction to modify the spousal-support order throughout the existence of the support obligation.\n(b) A tribunal of this state may not modify a spousal-support order issued by a tribunal of another state or a foreign country having continuing, exclusive jurisdiction over that order under the law of that state or foreign country.\n(c) A tribunal of this state that has continuing, exclusive jurisdiction over a spousal-support order may serve as:\n(1) An initiating tribunal to request a tribunal of another state to enforce the spousal-support order issued in this state; or\n(2) A responding tribunal to enforce or modify its own spousal-support order.","path":["Title 15 Domestic Relations","Chapter 23.1 Uniform Interstate Family Support Act","Article 2 Jurisdiction"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE15/15-23.1/15-2/15-23.1-211.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:55:39Z","sha256":"418e186e96e394bd5c2b235cb234dd640b1c3473a9febe3514bf66c4b10d4fe9","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-15-23.1-210","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-15-23.1-301"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
