Laws § 15-23.1-711","heading":"Modification of convention child-support order.","body":"(a) A tribunal of this state may not modify a convention child-support order if the obligee remains a resident of the foreign country where the support order was issued unless:\n(1) The obligee submits to the jurisdiction of a tribunal of this state, either expressly or by defending on the merits of the case without objecting to the jurisdiction at the first available opportunity; or\n(2) The foreign tribunal lacks or refuses to exercise jurisdiction to modify its support order or issue a new support order.\n(b) If a tribunal of this state does not modify a convention child-support order because the order is not recognized in this state, subsection 15-23.1-708(c) applies.","path":["Title 15 Domestic Relations","Chapter 23.1 Uniform Interstate Family Support Act","Article 7 Support Proceeding Under Convention"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE15/15-23.1/15-7/15-23.1-711.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:55:40Z","sha256":"840276604ee2073c7c15fd5bf749c145037417f3ba61568f3fa104435836ab6c","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-15-23.1-710","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-15-23.1-712"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
