Laws § 15-8.1-105","heading":"Standing to maintain proceeding.","body":"(a) Subject to other provisions of this chapter, a proceeding to adjudicate parentage may be maintained by:\n(1) The child;\n(2) The individual who gave birth to the child unless a court has adjudicated that the individual is not a parent or the individual is a gestational carrier who is not a parent under article 8 of this chapter;\n(3) An individual whose parentage is to be adjudicated;\n(4) An individual who is a parent under this chapter;\n(5) The office of child support services; or\n(6) A representative authorized by law to act for an individual who would otherwise be entitled to maintain a proceeding but who is deceased, incapacitated, or a minor.\n(b) A foster parent does not have standing under this chapter to establish parentage based solely on their status as a foster parent.","path":["Title 15 Domestic Relations","Chapter 8.1 Uniform Parentage Act","Article 1 Definitions, Scope and General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE15/15-8.1/15-1/15-8.1-105.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:55:36Z","sha256":"de473d5187af96750ced5e15c91e6808d4c851e2c019b1d1e4df6f770c115c90","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-15-8.1-104","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-15-8.1-106"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
