Laws § 16-16-40.1","heading":"One-time adjustment to original retirement allowance.","body":"(a) All teachers and the beneficiaries of teachers who retired during the calendar year 1979 shall receive an additional eight percent (8%) to their original retirement allowance.\n(b) All teachers and the beneficiaries of teachers who retired during calendar year 1978 shall receive an additional two percent (2%) added to the base eight percent (8%) paid to the 1979 retirees. Provided, further that an additional two percent (2%) of the retirement allowance shall be paid for each year to a maximum of twenty percent (20%) to those retirees and beneficiaries who retired in calendar year 1973 and prior to 1973 as indicated in the following schedule:\nYear of Retirement\tAdditional Percentage\n1979\t8%\n1978\t10%\n1977\t12%\n1976\t14%\n1975\t16%\n1974\t18%\n1973\t20%\nYears prior to 1973\t20%\n(c) The additional percentage shall be incorporated into the recipient’s monthly benefit starting with the payment due on or after July 31, 1986.\n(d) The provisions of §§ 45-13-7 through 45-13-10 shall not apply to this section.","path":["Title 16 Education","Chapter 16 Teachers’ Retirement [See Title 16 Chapter 97 — The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE16/16-16/16-16-40.1.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:55:45Z","sha256":"e6b313abb69bbd2f96369dac392404a45001368dfe2dae1098902db59939bfa9","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-16-16-40","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-16-16-41"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
