Laws § 16-25.1-1","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) “Blind student” means an individual who is eligible for special education services and who:\n(i) Has a visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the better eye with correcting lenses or has a limited field of vision so that the widest diameter subtends an angular distance of no greater than twenty degrees; or\n(ii) Has a medically indicated expectation of visual deterioration.\n(2) “Braille” means the system of reading and writing through touch commonly known as standard English Braille.\n(3) “Individualized education program” means a written statement developed for a student eligible for special education services pursuant to the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, 20 U.S.C. § 1400 et seq.","path":["Title 16 Education","Chapter 25.1 Braille Instruction for Blind Students [See Title 16 Chapter 97 — The Rhode Island Board of Education Act]"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE16/16-25.1/16-25.1-1.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:55:48Z","sha256":"23fc1f3dfde4212aa4d39738884c36115ff0e6c8077155595996af37549346f2","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-16-25-7","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-16-25.1-2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
