Laws § 16-42.1-3","heading":"Operations.","body":"The department of elementary and secondary education shall:\n(1) Establish policies and procedures for the academy consistent with this chapter.\n(2) Carry out the following responsibilities:\n(i) Inform all school systems of the functions and funding of the academy;\n(ii) Help school systems to develop cooperative, partnership, or regional programs;\n(iii) Review and approve proposals submitted by local school systems;\n(iv) Help to create new and productive approaches to providing direct services to meet the needs of gifted and talented students;\n(v) Consult with the state advisory committee established in § 16-42-3 on operation of the academy program;\n(vi) Assure that services funded under the academy’s auspices are direct and supplementary service to gifted and talented students;\n(vii) Monitor funded programs;\n(viii) Report on progress of programs funded under the academy.","path":["Title 16 Education","Chapter 42.1 Rhode Island Academy for Gifted and Talented Students"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE16/16-42.1/16-42.1-3.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:55:51Z","sha256":"5a0c6c96fc125c36208d76fe8806c09e0f87a3a8d190cede5a4b407cb81ffafa","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-16-42.1-2","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-16-42.1-4"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
