Laws § 23-18.6.1-12","heading":"Search and notification.","body":"(a) The following persons shall make a reasonable search of an individual who the person reasonably believes is dead or near death for a document of gift or other information identifying the individual as a donor or as an individual who made a refusal:\n(1) A law enforcement officer, firefighter, paramedic, or other emergency rescuer finding the individual; and\n(2) If no other source of the information is immediately available, a hospital, as soon as practical after the individual’s arrival at the hospital.\n(b) If a document of gift or a refusal to make an anatomical gift is located by the search required by subdivision (a)(1) and the individual or deceased individual to whom it relates is taken to a hospital, the person responsible for conducting the search shall send the document of gift or refusal to the hospital.\n(c) A person is not subject to criminal or civil liability for failing to discharge the duties imposed by this section but may be subject to administrative sanctions.","path":["Title 23 Health and Safety","Chapter 18.6.1 Revised Uniform Anatomical Gift Act"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE23/23-18.6.1/23-18.6.1-12.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:56:49Z","sha256":"1346d9f7bc8df38bc9c684309839016f70d99ce3ede59dc82805b605dc70ba36","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-23-18.6.1-11","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-23-18.6.1-13"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
