Laws § 23-28.01-2","heading":"Legislative findings.","body":"The general assembly finds and declares that:\n(1) Fires are a significant and preventable cause of the loss of life in the state;\n(2) Catastrophic fires, while rare, have happened in the state with tragic loss of life;\n(3) Fire safety and building codes can provide standards that substantially reduce the risk of death, injury, and property damage caused by fires;\n(4) Compliance with codes is critical to their being an effective means for achieving the reduction of both risks and losses;\n(5) Codes are more effective when they are comprehensive in their application, up-to-date, and integrated;\n(6) Rhode Island has a long history of developing, adopting, and implementing codes as conditions in the state have changed and the means and practice of fire safety have evolved; and\n(7) Rhode Island, in 2003, wishes in response to the tragic fire at “The Station” nightclub, in West Warwick, to improve fire safety throughout the state.","path":["Title 23 Health and Safety","Chapter 28.01 Comprehensive Fire Safety Act"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE23/23-28.01/23-28.01-2.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:57:04Z","sha256":"1c35c835145b96f02be00311b5658ecd1003108fde75050982d2bc74aefb491a","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-23-28.1-1","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-23-28.1-2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
