Laws § 27-46-7","heading":"Purchasing groups — Exemption from certain laws.","body":"A purchasing group and its insurer or insurers shall be subject to all applicable laws of this state, except that a purchasing group and its insurer or insurers shall be exempt, in regard to liability insurance for the purchasing group, from any law that would:\n(1) Prohibit the establishment of a purchasing group;\n(2) Make it unlawful for an insurer to provide or offer to provide insurance on a basis providing, to a purchasing group or its members, advantages based on their loss and expense experience not afforded to other persons with respect to rates, policy forms, coverage, or other matters;\n(3) Prohibit a purchasing group or its members from purchasing insurance on a group basis described in subsection (2);\n(4) Prohibit a purchasing group from obtaining insurance on a group basis because the group has not been in existence for a minimum period of time or because any member has not belonged to the group for a minimum period of time;\n(5) Require that a purchasing group must have a minimum number of members, common ownership or affiliation, or certain legal form;\n(6) Require that a certain percentage of a purchasing group must obtain insurance on a group basis;\n(7) Discriminate against a purchasing group or any of its members; or\n(8) Require that any insurance policy issued to a purchasing group or any of its members be countersigned by an insurance agent or broker or producer residing in this state.","path":["Title 27 Insurance","Chapter 46 Risk Retention Act"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE27/27-46/27-46-7.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:57:42Z","sha256":"42e107ed9974bb4eb0f2cda6dcdca1cda09b6bd2e84a14a91c89720e7524c678","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-27-46-6","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-27-46-8"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
