Laws § 28-20-16","heading":"Compliance orders.","body":"(a) If upon inspection or investigation the director believes that an employer has violated a requirement of § 28-20-8, or of any code, rule, or order promulgated pursuant to § 28-20-24, or of any regulation prescribed pursuant to this chapter or chapter 19 [repealed] of this title, he or she shall promptly issue a compliance order to the employer. Each compliance order shall be in writing and shall describe with particularity the nature of the violation, including a reference to the provision of the law, code, rule, regulation, or order alleged to have been violated. In addition, the compliance order shall fix a reasonable time for the abatement of the violations.\n(b) Each compliance order issued under this section or a copy or copies of each order shall be prominently posted as prescribed in regulations issued by the director at or near each place a violation referred to in the compliance order has occurred.\n(c) No compliance order may be issued under this section after the expiration of six (6) months following the occurrence of a violation.","path":["Title 28 Labor and Labor Relations","Chapter 20 Division of Occupational Safety"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE28/28-20/28-20-16.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:57:53Z","sha256":"ee08c07ed37468e2e71f9ee722076821d0bd80b38919bb5e1453d090ccffd5f9","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-28-20-15","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-28-20-17"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
