Laws § 30-13-20","heading":"Jurisdiction of summary courts-martial.","body":"(a) Subject to § 30-13-17, summary courts-martial have jurisdiction to try persons subject to this code, except officers, for any offense made punishable by this code.\n(b) No person with respect to whom summary courts-martial have jurisdiction may be brought to trial before a summary court-martial if that person objects thereto, unless under § 30-13-15 he or she has been permitted and has elected to refuse punishment under that section. If objection to trial by summary court-martial is made by an accused who has not been permitted to refuse punishment under § 30-13-15, trial shall be ordered by special or general court-martial, as may be appropriate.\n(c) A summary court-martial may, under such limitations as the governor may prescribe, adjudge any of the following punishments:\n(1) Confinement with hard labor for not more than twenty-five (25) days;\n(2) A fine of not more than twenty-five dollars ($25.00);\n(3) Forfeiture of pay and allowances of not more than twenty-five dollars ($25.00);\n(4) A reprimand;\n(5) Reduction of enlisted persons to a lower grade; or\n(6) Any combination of these punishments.","path":["Title 30 Military Affairs and Defense","Chapter 13 Rhode Island Code of Military Justice"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE30/30-13/30-13-20.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:58:08Z","sha256":"3650bbad1944fba88f01c2fcf5f0fb4832efd9967d051e82fa27bbfca6045168","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-30-13-19","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-30-13-21"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
