Laws § 31-27-1.1","heading":"Driving so as to endanger, resulting in serious personal injury.","body":"(a) When the serious bodily injury of any person ensues as a proximate result of the operation of any vehicle in reckless disregard of the safety of others, including violations of § 31-27-22, the person so operating the vehicle shall be guilty of “driving so as to endanger, resulting in serious bodily injury”.\n(b) “Serious bodily injury” means physical injury that creates a substantial risk of death or causes serious permanent disfigurement or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ.\n(c) Any person charged with a violation of this section shall upon conviction be imprisoned for not more than five (5) years and have his or her license to operate a motor vehicle suspended for no more than three (3) years.","path":["Title 31 Motor and Other Vehicles","Chapter 27 Motor Vehicle Offenses"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE31/31-27/31-27-1.1.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:58:25Z","sha256":"0c1d6272b6d87ab9a415a741ee5726e4ed98c566582a6a3c1ef37a9237fe3390","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-31-27-1","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-31-27-1.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
