Laws § 31-47.2-1","heading":"Legislative findings.","body":"The general assembly finds and declares that:\n(1) Exhaust emissions from heavy-duty diesel engines used in trucks and buses traveling within Rhode Island contribute significantly to air pollution within the state;\n(2) Heavy-duty diesel engines in a poor state of repair emit higher levels of pollution than engines that are well maintained;\n(3) Citizens of Rhode Island frequently raise concerns about emissions from heavy-duty diesel engines;\n(4) These emissions diminish the quality of life and health of our citizens;\n(5) Technology exists to determine the level of exhaust emissions from heavy-duty vehicles;\n(6) Maintenance and repair procedures are available that can readily be employed to correct unacceptable exhaust emissions;\n(7) Rhode Island is a party to a memorandum of understanding among states of the northeast United States in which each state agreed to use its best efforts to implement heavy-duty diesel testing programs consistent with the elements of the memorandum of understanding; and\n(8) It is in the public interest to establish a program regulating exhaust emissions from heavy-duty diesel trucks and buses traveling within Rhode Island.","path":["Title 31 Motor and Other Vehicles","Chapter 47.2 Heavy Duty Diesel Vehicle Emission Inspections"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE31/31-47.2/31-47.2-1.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:58:31Z","sha256":"2f24ffe2dce7ef77e850ba4b5dc70f0315fa1025a669634438a796f542dfff93","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-31-47.1-11","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-31-47.2-2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
