Laws § 31-48-3","heading":"Offenses committed.","body":"(a) Any person who knowingly and with intent: (1) owns, operates, or conducts a chop shop; (2) transports any motor vehicle or motor vehicle part to or from a location knowing it to be a chop shop; or (3) sells, transfers, purchases, or receives any motor vehicle or motor vehicle part either to or from a location knowing it to be a chop shop, shall, upon conviction, be guilty of a felony.\n(b) Any person who is convicted of an offense under this section may be imprisoned for up to five (5) years for each offense, and shall be fined up to fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) but not less than two thousand dollars ($2,000) for each offense.","path":["Title 31 Motor and Other Vehicles","Chapter 48 Motor Vehicle Chop Shop, Stolen and Altered Property"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE31/31-48/31-48-3.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:58:31Z","sha256":"48b942856579ad29e6ac0671d65a918d01f1a03d7467ad25eee19ee454542f66","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-31-48-2","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-31-48-4"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
