Laws § 39-26-1","heading":"Legislative findings.","body":"The General Assembly finds that:\n(1) The people and energy users of Rhode Island have an interest in having electricity supplied in the state come from a diversity of energy sources including renewable resources;\n(2) Increased use of renewable energy may have the potential to lower and stabilize future energy costs;\n(3) Increased use of renewable energy can reduce air pollutants, including carbon dioxide emissions, that adversely affect public health and contribute to global warming;\n(4) Massachusetts, Connecticut, and other states have established renewable energy standard programs to encourage the development of renewable energy sources;\n(5) It is in the interest of the people, in order to protect public health and the environment and to promote the general welfare, to establish a renewable energy standard program to increase levels of electrical energy supplied in the state from renewable resources.","path":["Title 39 Public Utilities and Carriers","Chapter 26 Renewable Energy Standard"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE39/39-26/39-26-1.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:59:21Z","sha256":"dd371b9dabe453737256312826a5e262ac504f3b4fc16a7a444230fac2bbf480","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-39-25-3","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-39-26-2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
