Laws § 39-9-12","heading":"Certificates for excess fare paid on train.","body":"Every railroad corporation carrying passengers in cars propelled by steam, which shall collect in the cars a greater fare than the price for which a single passage ticket is sold from the station at which the passenger takes the train, shall issue to the passenger a certificate for such sum as the fare collected on the train exceeds the sum for which a single passage ticket for the same distance is sold at the ticket office of the company, which certificate shall be payable upon presentation at any ticket office of the corporation; and every railroad corporation that shall neglect or refuse to comply with the provisions of this section shall be fined not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500) for each offense, one-half (½) to the use of the complainant and one-half (½) thereof to the use of the state.","path":["Title 39 Public Utilities and Carriers","Chapter 9 Railroad Rates and Service"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE39/39-9/39-9-12.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T19:59:16Z","sha256":"fd1def1be3e5efbe78deb87f8d60650d3b15d4d8c48142f3f435b2d2e747dcfb","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-39-9-11","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-39-9-13"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
