Laws § 42-165-4","heading":"Creation.","body":"(a) The RIIDS “DATA RI” is hereby established and is granted and authorized to use all the powers set forth in this chapter.\n(b) Functions. The RIIDS “DATA RI” shall:\n(1) Transmit, store, enable access to, permit the use, and dispose of linked data and information in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework and associated NIST 800-53 security controls commensurate with data sensitivity level and in accordance with all applicable state and privacy laws and state security policies;\n(2) Serve as a central repository of the state’s inter-agency, longitudinal, linked and individual data;\n(3) Enable the integration, linkage, and management of information;\n(4) Report on and provide public access to aggregate data to, among other things, address inequities in access, opportunities, and outcomes and improve student and educator decision-making;\n(5) Provide clarity to university and other researchers on the process to request data and what data is available to request;\n(6) Nothing in this chapter shall negate or otherwise adversely affect the validity and legal enforceability of any existing data sharing and/or research agreements executed between and among the state’s participating agencies and the state’s RILDS or Ecosystem; and\n(7) Nothing in this section and chapter shall negate or overrule the right of an agency, institution, or entity that has provided and/or transferred data to the RIIDS, RILDS, or the Ecosystem to determine the use of and access to its data.","path":["Title 42 State Affairs and Government","Chapter 165 Rhode Island Integrated Data System Act"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE42/42-165/42-165-4.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:00:15Z","sha256":"506d9c0e742c5488e2a6422d8af5de73326b28a02c51629fa0d68e81f222ac48","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-42-165-3","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-42-165-5"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
