Laws § 5-16-1","heading":"Definitions.","body":"In this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires:\n(1) “Licensing authorities” means the bureau or board of police commissioners of any city or town where that bureau or board of police commissioners is established; but where there is no bureau or board, it means the town council of a town and the city council of a city.\n(2) “Person” means and includes a person, partnership, or corporation.\n(3) “Public laundry” means and includes any plant or equipment conducted or operated as a laundry for profit, and for which business is solicited from the general public, but does not mean or include a laundry operated exclusively for and in connection with a hospital, school, or other institution, hotel, boardinghouse, or private dwelling, nor a laundry operated by one institution that also serves another institution.","path":["Title 5 Businesses and Professions","Chapter 16 Laundries"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE5/5-16/5-16-1.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T14:18:14Z","sha256":"8d3d587bb36ceeb36158054b8da5d6da933267fc54c1537b16ab3d6ef20c0a35","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-15-17","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-16-2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
