Laws § 5-33.2-6","heading":"Qualifications of funeral director/embalmers.","body":"A funeral director or embalmer’s license shall be issued only to individuals, and no corporation, partnership, association, limited-liability company, or organization shall be entitled to obtain the license. In order to be entitled to a funeral director/embalmer’s license, an applicant must meet the following requirements:\n(1) Be at least eighteen (18) years of age;\n(2) Be a citizen of the United States or have lawful entry into the country;\n(3) Show to the satisfaction of the division that he or she is of good moral character;\n(4) Be a high school graduate or its equivalent;\n(5) Have graduated from a school of mortuary science accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education, Inc.;\n(6) Have at least an associate degree or the equivalent of sixty (60) semester hours from an approved college or university or be currently enrolled in a school accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education, Inc.;\n(7) Have completed a registered funeral director/embalmer internship;\n(8) Have satisfactorily passed the funeral director and embalmer portions of the written examination of the Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards;\n(9) Have satisfactorily passed a practical examination that the board deems proper to ascertain his or her efficiency and qualifications to engage in the business of funeral directing and embalming;\n(10) All individuals holding an embalmer and/or funeral director license on November 1, 1995, will be automatically issued a funeral director/embalmer license upon payment of the required annual license renewal fee; and\n(11) The name and title of at least the funeral director/embalmer registered with the department as the licensee in charge of the funeral establishment or funeral establishment branch, shall appear in all printed advertising.","path":["Title 5 Businesses and Professions","Chapter 33.2 Funeral Director/Embalmer and Funeral Service Establishments"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE5/5-33.2/5-33.2-6.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T14:56:19Z","sha256":"981178d824b35bbe7c54f07cb6d947e82d51fb296f18cc72bf9d7160c7947c38","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-33.2-5","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-33.2-7"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
