Laws § 5-34-24","heading":"Grounds for discipline of licensees.","body":"The board of nurse registration and nursing education has the power to deny, revoke, or suspend any license to practice nursing; to provide for a nondisciplinary alternative only in situations involving alcohol or drug abuse; or to discipline a licensee upon proof that the person is:\n(1) Guilty of fraud or deceit in procuring or attempting to procure a license to practice nursing;\n(2) Guilty of a crime of gross immorality;\n(3) Unfit or incompetent by reason of negligence or habits;\n(4) Habitually intemperate or is addicted to the use of habit-forming drugs;\n(5) Mentally incompetent;\n(6) Guilty of unprofessional conduct that includes, but is not limited to, all of the above and also:\n(i) Abandonment of a patient;\n(ii) Willfully making and filing false reports or records in the practice of nursing;\n(iii) Willful omission to file or record nursing records and reports required by law;\n(iv) Failure to furnish appropriate details of a client’s nursing needs to succeeding nurses legally qualified to provide continuing nursing services to a client;\n(v) Willful disregard of standards of nursing practice and failure to maintain standards established by the nursing profession; or\n(7) Guilty of and willfully or repeatedly violating any of the provisions of this chapter and/or rule or regulation adopted pursuant to this chapter.","path":["Title 5 Businesses and Professions","Chapter 34 Nurses"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE5/5-34/5-34-24.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T15:00:49Z","sha256":"58348854fbbe1fd1d36b11a193524e0f4965695a1fb7eb2ebdbfcc5393921254","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-34-23","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-34-24.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
