Laws § 5-49-14","heading":"Powers and duties of department.","body":"The powers and duties of the department shall be as follows:\n(1) To authorize all disbursements necessary to carry out the provisions of this chapter;\n(2) To supervise issuance of licenses “by experience” and approve the preparation and administration of qualifying examinations to test the knowledge and proficiency of applicants licensed by examination;\n(3) To register persons who apply to the department and who are qualified to engage in the fitting and sale of hearing aids;\n(4) To purchase and maintain or rent audiometric equipment and other facilities necessary to carry out the examination of applicants as provided in § 5-49-7;\n(5) To issue and renew licenses;\n(6) To suspend or revoke licenses in the manner provided;\n(7) To designate the time and place for examining applicants;\n(8) To appoint representatives to conduct or supervise the examination;\n(9) To establish medical and technical knowledge and standards applicable to the field;\n(10) To appoint or employ subordinate employees;\n(11) To determine work experience and educational requirements;\n(12) To issue an annual report in conjunction with the board of hearing aid dealers and fitters on its activities;\n(13) To publish education and consumer material in conjunction with the board of hearing aid dealers and fitters as may assist the public in the appropriate use and purchase of hearing aids.","path":["Title 5 Businesses and Professions","Chapter 49 Hearing Aid Dealers and Fitters"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE5/5-49/5-49-14.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T15:50:44Z","sha256":"3e43f56e0d7a5c690b0586c7678f7059ad1f036f59da53a645dc781331eb6f92","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-49-13","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-49-15"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
