Laws § 5-49-9","heading":"Scope of examination.","body":"The qualifying examination provided in § 5-49-7, “license by examination,” shall be designed to demonstrate the applicant’s adequate technical qualifications by:\n(1) Testing knowledge in the following areas as they pertain to the fitting and sale of hearing aids:\n(i) Basic physics of sound;\n(ii) The anatomy and physiology of the ear; and\n(iii) The function of hearing aids;\n(2) Testing practical proficiency in the following techniques as they pertain to the fitting of hearing aids:\n(i) Pure-tone audiometry, including air-conduction testing and bone-conduction testing;\n(ii) Live voice or recorded voice-speech audiometry, including speech-reception threshold testing and speech-discrimination testing;\n(iii) Masking when indicated;\n(iv) Recording and evaluating audiograms and speech audiometry to determine proper selection and adaptation of a hearing aid;\n(v) Taking ear mold impressions; and\n(3) Testing knowledge of the medical and rehabilitation facilities for children and adults in the area being served.","path":["Title 5 Businesses and Professions","Chapter 49 Hearing Aid Dealers and Fitters"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE5/5-49/5-49-9.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T15:50:19Z","sha256":"eb3dfc723e6de891122577e66eec74269d0f48ab889aff5ae2ee710efc13d4c2","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-49-8","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-49-10"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
