Laws § 5-81-2","heading":"Definitions.","body":"The following words and phrases when used in this chapter shall have the meanings given to them in this chapter unless the context clearly indicates otherwise:\n(1) “Performing group” means a vocal or instrumental group seeking to use the name of another group that has previously released a commercial sound recording under that name.\n(2) “Recording group” means a vocal or instrumental group at least one of whose members has previously released a commercial sound recording under that group’s name and in which the member or members have a legal right by virtue of use or operation under the group name without having abandoned the name or affiliation with the group.\n(3) “Sound recording” means a work that results from the fixation on a material object of a series of musical, spoken, or other sounds, regardless of the nature of the material object, such as a disk, tape, or other phono-record, in which the sounds are embodied.","path":["Title 5 Businesses and Professions","Chapter 81 Truth in Music Advertising Act"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE5/5-81/5-81-2.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T16:40:14Z","sha256":"307379377850b46bcc922c6ddb1d32168678c803e983827d08ba204bbbf643b6","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-81-1","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-5-81-3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
