Laws § 6-26-11","heading":"Medical debt interest cap.","body":"(a) For purposes of this section “medical debt” means an obligation of a consumer to pay an amount for the receipt of healthcare services as defined by § 27-81-3, products, or devices, owed to a healthcare facility or a healthcare professional as defined by § 27-81-3.\n(b) Interest on medical debt shall be limited to the rate of interest equal to the weekly average one-year constant maturity Treasury yield, but not less than one and a half percent per annum (1.5% p.a.) nor more than four percent per annum (4% p.a.) as published by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, for the calendar week preceding the date when the consumer was first provided with a bill.\n(c) The rate of interest provided in subsection (b) of this section shall only be applied to new debt incurred after June 26, 2025.","path":["Title 6 Commercial Law — General Regulatory Provisions","Chapter 26 Interest and Usury"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE6/6-26/6-26-11.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T17:13:24Z","sha256":"1d263a251c984d2dede07d899692ae02bbe072fe566cfb4aab937f8170873a00","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-6-26-10","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-6-26.1-1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
