Laws § 7-5.1-2","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) “Authorized to practice” means duly licensed, certified, or registered by the proper regulatory agency.\n(2) “Professional services” means the rendering of personal services by a person authorized to practice as one of the following professions as defined:\n(i) Physicians;\n(ii) Dentists;\n(iii) Attorneys at law;\n(iv) [Deleted by P.L. 2000, ch. 328, § 1, and by P.L. 2000, ch. 513, § 1.]\n(v) Professional engineers;\n(vi) Architects;\n(vii) Certified public accountants and licensed public accountants;\n(viii) Veterinarians;\n(ix) Chiropractors;\n(x) Podiatrists;\n(xi) Registered nurses;\n(xii) Optometrists;\n(xiii) Physical therapists;\n(xiv) Landscape architects;\n(xv) Land surveyors;\n(xvi) Opticians;\n(xvii) Physician assistants;\n(xviii) Psychologists; or\n(xix) Midwives or nurse-midwives.\n(3) “Regulatory agency” means:\n(i) The professional licensing board contained within the department of health, as set forth in title 5 when referring to physicians, dentists, chiropractors, podiatrists, registered nurses, optometrists, physical therapists, opticians, physician assistants, or midwives or nurse-midwives;\n(ii) The Supreme Court when referring to attorneys at law;\n(iii) The boards of registration of professional engineers and land surveyors when referring to professional engineers or land surveyors;\n(iv) The board of examination and registration of architects when referring to architects;\n(v) The board of accountancy when referring to certified public accountants and licensed public accountants;\n(vi) The board of veterinarians when referring to veterinarians;\n(vii) The board of examiners of landscape architects when referring to landscape architects;\n(viii) The board of psychology when referring to psychologists.","path":["Title 7 Corporations, Associations, and Partnerships","Chapter 5.1 Professional Service Corporations"],"source_url":"https://webserver.rilegislature.gov/Statutes/TITLE7/7-5.1/7-5.1-2.htm","current_through":"site files published 2025-08-13","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T18:56:54Z","sha256":"a58d3e532f64fc9aad918610c79ffd214f4ad62cd77e7013b86101645d86af45","source_id":"us-ri","stale":true,"prev":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-7-5.1-1","next":"us-ri/r.i.-gen.-laws-7-5.1-3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
