Code Ann. § 16-13-131","heading":"Product code creation to fraudulently obtain goods or merchandise for less than the actual sales price; penalties.","body":"(A) It is unlawful for a person to create or conspire with another person to create a product code for the purpose of fraudulently obtaining goods or merchandise from a merchant at less than its actual sale price.\n(B) It is unlawful for a person to commit or conspire with another person to commit larceny against a merchant by affixing a product code created for the purpose of fraudulently obtaining goods or merchandise from a merchant at less than its actual sale price.\n(C) A person who violates this section:\n(1) for a first offense, is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than five thousand dollars or imprisoned for not more than three years, or both; and\n(2) for a second or subsequent offense, is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than ten thousand dollars or imprisoned for not more than ten years, or both.","path":["Title 16 - CRIMES AND OFFENSES","CHAPTER 13 Forgery, Larceny, Embezzlement, False Pretenses and Cheats","ARTICLE 1 Miscellaneous Offenses"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t16c013.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T06:44:34Z","sha256":"19ce8297a29a68bb0d4c29a41ab88806fad66f65c5ae0c772e1008f41be0a272","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-16-13-130","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-16-13-135"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
