Code Ann. § 16-16-25","heading":"Compensatory damages and restitution.","body":"In addition to other civil remedies available, the owner or lessee of a computer, computer system, computer network, computer program, or data may bring a civil action against a person convicted under this chapter for compensatory damages, restitution, and attorney's fees. Compensatory damages and restitution may include:\n(1) expenditures reasonably and necessarily incurred by the owner or lessee to verify whether a computer system, computer network, computer program, or data was altered, damaged, or deleted by the access;\n(2) costs of repairing or, if necessary, replacing the affected computer, computer system, computer network, computer software, computer program, or data;\n(3) lost profits for the period that the computer, computer system, computer network, computer software, computer program, or data was unusable; and\n(4) costs of replacing or restoring the data lost or damaged as a result of a violation of this chapter.","path":["Title 16 - CRIMES AND OFFENSES","CHAPTER 16 Computer Crime Act"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t16c016.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T06:44:49Z","sha256":"f25153da1287c32d99a1287d0212349aab1982204c779289994360411bdbb31c","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-16-16-20","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-16-16-30"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
