Code Ann. § 36-9-512","heading":"Amendment of financing statement.","body":"(a) Subject to Section 36-9-509, a person may add or delete collateral covered by, continue or terminate the effectiveness of, or, subject to subsection (e), otherwise amend the information provided in, a financing statement by filing an amendment that:\n(1) identifies, by its file number, the initial financing statement to which the amendment relates; and\n(2) if the amendment relates to an initial financing statement filed or recorded in a filing office described in Section 36-9-501(a)(1), provides the date and time that the initial financing statement was filed or recorded and the information specified in Section 36-9-502(b).\n(b) Except as otherwise provided in Section 36-9-515, the filing of an amendment does not extend the period of effectiveness of the financing statement.\n(c) A financing statement that is amended by an amendment that adds collateral is effective as to the added collateral only from the date of the filing of the amendment.\n(d) A financing statement that is amended by an amendment that adds a debtor is effective as to the added debtor only from the date of the filing of the amendment.\n(e) An amendment is ineffective to the extent it:\n(1) purports to delete all debtors and fails to provide the name of a debtor to be covered by the financing statement; or\n(2) purports to delete all secured parties of record and fails to provide the name of a new secured party of record.","path":["Title 36 - COMMERCIAL CODE","CHAPTER 9 Commercial Code—Secured Transactions","Part 5 Filing"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t36c009.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:08:49Z","sha256":"8317153476adf2a9c155cf75b25d44b039a8b1e40799e1bba78ccd2df59d0150","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-36-9-511","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-36-9-513"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
