Code Ann. § 37-1-102","heading":"Purposes; rules of construction.","body":"(1) This title shall be liberally construed and applied to promote its underlying purposes and policies.\n(2) The underlying purposes and policies of this title are:\n(a) to simplify, clarify and modernize the law governing retail installment sales, consumer credit and usury;\n(b) to provide rate ceilings to assure an adequate supply of credit to consumers;\n(c) to further consumer understanding of the terms of credit transactions and to foster competition among suppliers of consumer credit so that consumers may obtain credit at reasonable cost;\n(d) to protect consumer buyers, lessees, and borrowers against unfair practices by some suppliers of consumer credit, having due regard for the interests of legitimate and scrupulous creditors;\n(e) to permit and encourage the development of fair and economically sound consumer credit practices;\n(f) to conform the regulation of consumer credit transactions to the policies of the Federal Consumer Credit Protection Act; and\n(g) to make uniform the law, including administrative rules, among the various jurisdictions.\n(3) A reference to a requirement imposed by this title includes reference to a related rule of the administrator adopted pursuant to this title.","path":["Title 37 - CONSUMER PROTECTION CODE","CHAPTER 1 General Provisions and Definitions","Part 1 Short Title; Construction; General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t37c001.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:09:09Z","sha256":"3252c4a3a2b10d6b479c5c7dcb1c0b600d11ebdb89e7a404ae382b4c596926ce","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-37-1-101","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-37-1-103"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
