Code Ann. § 40-15-500","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter:\n(1) \"Asynchronous transmission\" means store and forward technology that allows a licensee to transmit a patient's health information to another licensee for viewing at a later time.\n(2) \"Current radiographic records\" means radiographs or images taken contemporaneously with an in-person examination.\n(3) \"Distant site\" means the location of the site where a licensee is providing teledentistry services to a patient located at an originating site.\n(4) \"Emergent care\" means treatment of pain, infection, or any other intraoral or perioral condition that presents immediate harm to the well-being of the patient and for which treatment cannot be postponed.\n(5) \"Originating site\" means the location of the site where a patient is receiving teledentistry services from a licensee at a distant site.\n(6) \"Public health program\" means a program approved by the board or any program administered by:\n(a) the Department of Health and Human Services;\n(b) a health district; or\n(c) a school district.\n(7) \"Teledentistry\" has the same meaning and may be used interchangeably with the term \"telehealth\" as defined in Section 40-42-10(5). The term includes, without limitation:\n(a) real-time interactions between a patient at an originating site and a licensee at a distant site;\n(b) the asynchronous transmission of medical and dental information concerning a patient from an originating site to a licensee at a distant site;\n(c) interaction between a licensee who is providing dental services to a patient at an originating site and another licensee at the originating site; and\n(d) monitoring of a patient at an originating site by a licensee at a distant site.","path":["Title 40 - PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS","CHAPTER 15 Dentists, Dental Hygienists, and Dental Technicians","ARTICLE 5 Teledentistry"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t40c015.php","current_through":"2026 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-10-25T03:53:50Z","sha256":"b3f44b3f82ba2aff253cb0f94bf0905b5fe0e58d589534f58742794306ab7a63","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-40-15-450","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-40-15-510"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
