Code Ann. § 40-15-540","heading":"Teledentistry prerequisites.","body":"Prior to the provision of services to a patient through teledentistry, a licensee shall:\n(1) confirm the patient's identity;\n(2) if the patient is a minor who is not authorized by law to consent to the services, confirm that the parent or legal guardian of the patient is present;\n(3) confirm that the patient is located in a jurisdiction where the provider is licensed or otherwise authorized to practice and document the patient's location in the patient's record;\n(4) obtain:\n(a) informed written consent that meets the requirements of Section 40-15-580 from a patient who is an adult or a minor authorized by law to provide consent; or\n(b) informed written consent that meets the requirements of Section 40-15-580 from the parent or guardian of a patient who is a minor and is not authorized by law to provide consent; and\n(5) document the informed consent provided pursuant to subsection (4) in the patient's record.","path":["Title 40 - PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS","CHAPTER 15 Dentists, Dental Hygienists, and Dental Technicians","ARTICLE 5 Teledentistry"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t40c015.php","current_through":"2026 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-10-25T03:53:50Z","sha256":"48339ac84ded95ba9f697a50a3af16f21844d682e9c1f319eabfa0710fd5cb35","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-40-15-530","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-40-15-550"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
