Code Ann. § 44-33-10","heading":"Sickle cell education and prevention program.","body":"The Department of Health and Environmental Control is hereby authorized to initiate a sickle cell education and prevention program based entirely upon voluntary cooperation of the individuals involved. The program shall provide:\n(1) laboratory testing of citizens in the reproductive ages to determine the presence of the sickle cell gene;\n(2) counselling for persons identified as carriers of the sickle cell gene, for the purpose of educating these persons about the risk of a child of the person inheriting sickle cell disease;\n(3) referral of persons with sickle cell disease, as necessary, so that they may obtain proper medical care and treatment, to include pain management; and\n(4) basic education to the general public about sickle cell disease, so as to eradicate the stigma attached to the disease.","path":["Title 44 - HEALTH","CHAPTER 33 Sickle Cell Disease","ARTICLE 1 General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t44c033.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:32:19Z","sha256":"3ca110142c8efc76f0ec8fbda6e5b78c31dceb54b6488523093d61acfb4fd586","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-44-32-120","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-44-33-310"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
