Code Ann. § 44-52-80","heading":"Involuntary commitment; notice of hearing.","body":"After the filing of the petition with the court, the court shall give notice of the hearing to the following persons:\n(a) the individual for whom involuntary commitment is sought;\n(b) the parent, spouse, personal representative, or legal guardian, if any;\n(c) the person filing the petition;\n(d) the attorney representing the individual for whom involuntary commitment is sought;\n(e) the head of the treatment facility if the individual is in a treatment facility; and\n(f) any other person the court determines shall have notice of the proceedings.\nThe notice shall include the date, time, and place of hearing, a clear statement in plain and simple language of the purpose of the proceedings, and the possible consequences to the individual for whom involuntary commitment is sought; a copy of the petition or affidavit and supporting certificates of the examining physician; and the right to the assistance of an attorney, and the appointment of an attorney if the individual named in the petition is unable to afford one.","path":["Title 44 - HEALTH","CHAPTER 52 Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commitment"],"source_url":"https://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t44c052.php","current_through":"2025 Session of the General Assembly","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T07:33:29Z","sha256":"d09a9bf4b839e5eaa21d44d809952c22bb55a2069b714df021b9ec5f4cd9191e","source_id":"us-sc","stale":false,"prev":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-44-52-70","next":"us-sc/s.c.-code-ann.-44-52-90"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
